Panels, bolts, braces
Each panel is a steel sheet with ribs that make it rigid. The panels are bolted together along their full height to form the walls. Behind each joint goes a triangular brace, standing on the footing, that keeps the wall vertical when the pool fills.

Footing and backfill
The panels stand on a perimeter concrete footing, carefully levelled. Once the pipes are in, the space behind the walls is filled with lean concrete or suitable material so the frame locks into the ground. The pool floor is finished smooth for the liner to sit right.

Why it lasts
Galvanising protects the steel from rust in damp ground. The pool water never touches it, and the panels don't crack with heat and cold the way rigid concrete can. When, after many years, the pool needs refreshing, the liner changes, not the wall.
Shapes it gives
Straight lines: rectangle, L-shape, recesses for steps or a bench, a gutter for an overflow. Corners and steps are also built from steel parts before the liner.
