The checklist
- pH between 7.2 and 7.6. The most important number: with the wrong pH chlorine doesn't work.
- Chlorine in the range set by the device or product maker.
- Baskets in the skimmer and pump pre-filter empty.
- Brush the waterline and corners.
- Robot or vacuum for the floor.
- Level at mid-height of the skimmer mouth.
- Pressure gauge on the filter: if it has risen noticeably, backwash.
Cleaning robot
An electric robot cleans floor and walls on its own and has its own filter. It is the biggest help in maintenance, especially for holiday homes. Make sure its brushes are suitable for liners.

After a storm or a party
After heavy rain or lots of swimmers, test again and give the filter more running hours. If the water turns cloudy, see cloudy or green water.
