How many and where
We aim the lights away from the terrace and windows, so you see glowing water, not lamps. In long pools we spread them along the length. Steps are best lit, for safety at night. The lights are fixed to the panels before the liner and sealed with flanges.
White or colours
Warm white gives a calm, hotel-like look and brings out the liner colour. RGB lights change colours and scenes, popular for parties and with children. Many lights today do both.

The garden around
A pool looks better when what surrounds it is lit too: a tree from below, a planter, a hidden strip under the coping of a raised pool. A few low lights are enough.
Electrical safety
Pool lights run on low voltage, with a transformer in the plant room. The whole electrical installation follows the rules for wet areas.
