Pump
The pump circulates the water. We choose it so the whole pool volume passes through the filter several times a day, without oversizing. Variable-speed pumps run for many hours at low speed and use far less than old single-speed ones.
Filter
Sand or glass media filters are the most common: simple, durable, cleaned by backwashing with a turn of a valve. Filter size follows the pump. Inlets, pipes and valves are designed together so the water isn't squeezed anywhere.

Panel and automation
The panel has protections, a timer for the pump and switches for lights and hydromassage. With a few extra parts the pool can be run from your phone: filter schedule, lights, temperature. Useful for rentals and holiday homes.
Where and how
The closer to the pool, the lower the losses and the cheaper it runs. It can be a pit in the ground, a small room or a cabinet. It needs ventilation, a drain for backwash and sound insulation if it sits next to a bedroom.
